Esotérica Tropical is a queer Boricua bruja who transcends musical boundaries with their commanding voice, intuitive folk harp, and a fusion of Afro-Puerto Rican Bomba rhythms and electronic innovation. Their work boldly challenges colonial mentality, advocating for sovereignty and surrealism. A chance encounter with a Celtic harp on a Puerto Rican beach in 2009 transformed them from an acupuncturist into a genre-defying musical magician. Drawing on 20 years as a healer, Esotérica Tropical’s ritualistic performances have captivated audiences at major venues and festivals worldwide including: Oakland Museum, MACLA, Yerba Buena Gardens Festival, SOMArts, Teatro Municipal de Cusco, Festival Color Caribe, and Fiestón Cultural del ICPPR. Their debut album, Esotérica Tropical (2024), has been hailed as “buoyant, fresh, nourishing, gentle, and jubilant” (White Crate) and described as “nothing short of alchemic magic” (Remezcla). La Banda Elastica describes it as “a piece of work that flows between modernity and ancestral Latin rhythms, electronic and bomba, empowering the QTBIPOC community.” They are featured on Argentinian producer Chancha Via Circuito’s album La Estrella.
