Chris Drury

Chris Drury is a land artist whose work explores nature and culture. He has worked extensively with small communities in Europe, Japan, and America, collaborating with others and creating works that address the needs of the community and form an integral part of the landscape. His current project, Heart of Reeds, is being created in conjunction with the Lewes Railway Wildlife trust and the Lewes District Council. For the project a reed bed has been designed as an area of water, reeds, islands and earth mounds. It is a living land sculpture visible in its entirety from the adjoining hill, and with access to the reed bed via boardwalks. By increasing the borderlands between water and land it is hoped the work will provide a richer habitat and therefore a larger diversity of species in an area already rich in wetland wildlife, and that it will create in this local nature reserve a unique resource for study and education.
