Amos Elkana (b. 1967) composes concert-music for orchestras, chamber ensembles and soloists as well as music for Dance, Theatre and Film. His music has been performed in The United States, Europe and Israel by noteworthy ensembles and soloists in Carnegie Hall, The Berlin Festival, Henry Crown Auditorium (Jerusalem), Central European University (Budapest), Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Goethe Institute (NYC), the Jerusalem Music Center, and elsewhere.  Elkana has received grants and scholarships from the Rabinovitch Foundation (Israel), Israel-America Cultural Foundation, Tytte and Lillemor Faurschou’s Foundation (Denmark), New England Conservatory and Bard College (NY). Elkana is currently working on his Master of Fine Arts degree from Bard College in New York.  In 2003 he won the “Golden Feather” prize for his composition “Arabic Lessons” that has been described by the Jerusalem Post as “one of the most significant works composed in Israel”.

While in residence Elkana will be working with dancer Sommer Ulrickson and visual artist Alexander Polzin on a new version of Hamlet explored through dance and music.
