Sommer Ulrickson was born in California, attended the University of California at Santa Cruz, and worked in San Francisco as choreographer, dancer and actor for several years before moving to Germany in 1998 through the support of a German Chancellor Fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. While in Berlin she built a strong base as both a theater director and choreographer working with steady funding and commissions.

At Montalvo Ulrickson will work with German visual artist Alexander Polzin and Israeli composer Amos Elkana on a version of Hamlet that is explored through dance with a focus on a musical score.
