Iris Charabi-Berggren

Iris Charabi-Berggren was born in Tel Aviv, Israel. She currently lives and works in San Francisco, California. She received her BFA in sculpture from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1999 and her MFA in media arts from the California College of the Arts in 2007. She has exhibited her work locally at the Berkeley Art Museum/Pacific Film Archive, the New Langton Arts, Southern Exposure, Berkeley Art Center and at the Walter and Mcbean Galleries in San Francisco. In addition, her work has been included in a number of group shows in the East Coast.

Iris Charabi-Berggren is the 2010 recipient of the ‘Visions from the New California Award’ and was awarded residencies at the Headlands Center for the Arts (2010), Kala Art Institute in Berkeley (2011) as well as at the Montalvo Art Center (2012). In May of 2012 she will present her first Solo show at Mission Comics and Art in San Francisco.

In her process, Charabi-Berggren applies many different media to her artwork, such as video, sculpture, and drawing to mention a few, carefully choosing the materials and processes that suit her ideas the best. As a result the outcome of her work is often diverse and experimental in nature yet it maintains consistent and recognizable themes which have roots in her interest in human psychology as it relates to social constructs and the environment.
