Ruth Boerefijn

Place is the primary creative reference point through which Ruth Boerefijn senses, synthesizes, and then creates her artwork. The youngest daughter of a Calvinist minister, over time Boerefijn moved with her family from one parsonage and church to the next new terrain. She developed keen antennae to interpret her new surroundings, a skill which translates into her current artistic practice – working with materials that enliven a space.

Boerefijn’s site-specific installations have been exhibited domestically and internationally at places such as the de Young Museum, MacDowell Colony, Djerassi’s SMIP Ranch, and The Hafnarborg Institute of Culture and Fine Art. Solo exhibitions have been featured in Iceland at Gallery Klaustur in Skriduklaustur, and the Hafnarborg Institute of Culture and Fine Art in Hafnarfjordur, as well as at the Fresno Art Museum, and the Olga Dollar Galley in San Francisco.
