Originally from an island
in the Puget Sound, Airyka studied film, photography and phenomenological
anthropology at Sarah Lawrence College in New York, and received her MFA from
California College of the Arts in 2005.
Airyka has completed
residencies in India and the Czech Republic. The Lucas Artist Program at
Montalvo Artist Center will be her first residency closer to home, as she has
resided in San Francisco for the past 13 years.
Over the past two decades
Airyka has worked in many mediums including photography, collage, film, text,
textiles and books. She is also
creatively involved in local fashion, food and editorial photography worlds. Recent projects include collaborations with
other artists, cooks and makers, including food projects, pop up shops, collage
exhibitions and photography book design and editing.
