Over the last few years German artist Polzin’s work as a painter has focused on making series that examine a particular theme. One such 20-piece series “Monster” was developed in Berlin’s Charite Virchow-Collection about which Chicago Professor Sander Gilman published the book with the Wallsetein Publishers. Additionally, W.H. Auden’s poem “Age of Anxiety” served as inspiration for my 99-part series of the same name which will be exhibited by the Goethe Institute in New York in 2005.

For his residency Alexander Polzin plans on realizing a series of paintings investigating the relationship between visual arts and music, using Bach’s “Art of Fugue” as a starting point.  He will also be working with dancer Sommer Ulrickson and composer Amos Elka on a dance piece inspired by Shakespeare’s “Hamlet.”
