A descendant of the Ohlone people, from the village of Chitactac and founder of the Confederation of Ohlone People. Charlene Eigen-Vasquez hails from San Jose, California. She is an accomplished writer, textile artist, acrylic painter, and trained peacemaker. Her work as an art teacher and artist are a reflection of the strong ties she has to her traditional homeland and it incorporates both Rumsen Ohlone and Chicana cultural influences. She is considered an Artist Activist because she uses holistic teaching practices and artwork to influence communities, foster self-actualization, and hold sacred space for conversation. Her goal is to use this alternative form of communication to lift the voices of families and communities in order to address challenging problems. Charlene has shown work and taught in California, Minnesota and Utah.
