Claude Black began painting on canvas in 1969. Throughout the 1970’s he used acrylic in mixed media on wood, plexi-glass and paper. During the 1980’s and 90’s he returned to acrylic on canvas increasing scale to as large as 10’x14′. In recent years he has been making multiple piece paintings and suites. His work has been shown in corporate, gallery and studio exhibitions as well as juried shows. His last gallery show was at Gallerie Simonne Stern in New Orleans. He and his wife Jennifer divide their time between Bay St. Louis, MS and northern Minnesota.

Black received a fellowship to Lucas Programs thanks to a James Irvine Foundation grant offering residencies to displaced Gulf Coast artists.
