Heather Smith writes about how cities work, how agriculture works, how
politics work, how bodies work. She has written for Gourmet, Slate, and the book Infinite
City
. Currently, she writes about the intersection between the economy and
the environment for Grist.org.

She’s a founding member of the arts collective Shipping & Receiving,
which creates landscape focused work that is to de-familiarize and reveal the
city again. Sometimes this means building a replica of the night sky over
California the year that gold was discovered (1848). Sometimes it means holding
a wrestling match between Dianne Feinstein and a bear.

She is delighted to be at Montalvo, where she’s writing about wilderness and
climate change.
