Joan Linder

Joan Linder was born in 1970, and raised, in suburban New York.  She received her MFA from Columbia University
in New York, New York and went on to study at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in
Skowhegan, Maine.  She
currently resides and works in Brooklyn and Buffalo, New York.

Known for drawings packed with thousands, even hundreds of thousands
of tiny, energized marks, Linder’s large-scale images of quotidian are inspired
by her immediate surroundings through a process of embodied observation.

Past notable exhibitions include shows at the Albright Knox Art
Gallery, Buffalo, New York in 2010 and 2012; Kunstahallen Brandts, Odense,
Denmark in 2009 and 2010; the Aldrich Museum, Ridgefield, Connecticut in 2004
and 2005; the Gwanjgu Art Museum, South Korea in 2005; the Bronx Museum, Bronx,
New York in 1999 and 2005, Queens Museum, Queens, New York in 2000 and 2003;
and OMI International Art Center, Ghent, New York in 2014. She has received
residency fellowships at Yaddo, Macdowell, Montalvo Art Center and Smack Mellon
Studios, and a Pollock Krasner Foundation grant.

Linder’s work is included in the collections of the Brandts Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo, New York;
Bank of America, New York, New York; Davis Museum, Wellesley College,
Massachusetts; Eweing Gallery, University of Tennessee Art Gallery, Knoxville,
Tennessee; the Francis J Geenburger Collection; Metropolitan Transit Authority,
New York, New York; Progressive Corporation, Ohio; the Gwangju Art Museum,
South Korea; the West Collection at SEI, Pennsylvania; and the Zabludowicz
Collections in New York, New York and London, England.

Linder is currently an Associate Professor of Art at University at
Buffalo SUNY.  Most recently, she had a
solo exhibition at Fiendish Plots in Lincoln, Nebraska and solo projects at
Nina Freudenheim Gallery, Buffalo, New York and Mixed Green Gallery, New York,
New York where she is represented.
