Madan Singh

Dr. Madan Singh is a semiotician and English literature PhD, screenwriter, and Sufi singer and composer who lives in New Delhi. Dr. Singh has written and lectured extensively on cinema, art, and cultural history.  He currently teaches English Literature at Satyawati College and is the Coordinator for Cinema Studies the School of Convergence, IMI, New Delhi.  Singh wrote the screenplay, dialogues, and lyrics for the award winning feature film Name of a River (2002).  He is a singer of Sufi texts and has travelled with the legendary Kurdo-Persian singer Shahram Nazeri to ancient Sufi tows.  He has also sung in films and performed in music festivals.  His own compositions have been used in films, including his song “Toona song” which was featured in Mira Nair’s Kamasutra. 

While in residence Singh will be composing the music and sounds for a video project with visual artist Ranbir Kaleka related to passages and journeys. The work will be installed at the Indian Pavilion at the 2005 Venice Biennale.
