About

Rayos Magos is a Latinx/Chicano, interdisciplinary artist from San José. His background in Psychology and Expressive Arts Therapy influences his artistic practice. His work focuses on symbolism, healing, spirituality, mental health, and social justice. Magos explores personal narratives and universal themes via collage, printmaking, painting, textile, and sculpture. As an Latinx, artist Magos’ past and present work is influenced by his investigation into his ethnic and cultural identity as a Chicano (Mexican-American/Latinx) living in the U.S. Magos is inspired by culture, people, identity, and the roles we play in society. He looks to create a visual language of meaning and storytelling via symbolic imagery. Magos’ intention is to speak through symbols and conjure up distant memories in order to bring them to the present and remind us where we have come from and where we are heading. Through this work, Magos is delving into a cultural reclamation of his ethnic identity and history through the investigation of Mesoamerican symbols and meanings behind them. Magos is currently a Cultural Ambassador for the City of San José. His works have been shown regionally and internationally.
