Region
India

Based in Vadodara (also known as Baroda) in India, curator and art historian Sandhya Bordewekar Gajjar (b. 1957) has spent the last thirty-five years researching and writing about the work of artists from the region. She is especially interested in young, emerging artists of promise, especially those from small-town India. Baroda’s vibrant artistic community is due, in part, to the presence of the prestigious Baroda Art School, which is an institution of choice for many aspiring artists. Baroda also offers an affordable, peaceful environment for struggling artists, who often make it their home after they finish art school. Gajjar is contributing correspondent from Baroda for such art magazines as Art India, Art & Deal, The Indian Contemporary Art Journal, Nigaah, and Art etc. She has also written for The Times of India, The Indian Express, The Sunday Observer and the Economic Times. In addition to art writing, Gajjar has also curated a number of art exhibitions in India and the UK.

This residency is sponsored by Art Forum San Francisco, a not for profit that strives to define and promote all art forms emerging from South Asia.
