New York environmental artist and sculptor Steven Siegel is known for his large monolithic sculpture made of recycled materials. Since the early 90s, the artist has installed over 40 of his works throughout the United States, Asia and Europe. While in residence at L.A.P. Seigel created a large site-specific installation made of paper and wood approximately 18 ft high and 12 ft in diameter on the side of the front lawn. Twenty cubic yards of newsprint “overruns” donated by the San Jose Mercury News were layered over a wooden armature. Two assistants and many community volunteers helped the artist in this collaborative project.
