Susan Trimingham has been teaching both primary and elementary students through SPECTRA and Exemplary grants (non-profit grants through the Cultural Council of Santa Cruz County) since 1998. She works with the Bay Area California Art Project facilitating workshops for teachers—teaching teachers how to teach art and serves as a mentor and coach.

For four consecutive summers, Susan has taught art at Yosemite National Park as a resident artist. In 2007, Susan spent 7 months with the Peace Corps in Uganda where she established an art program for a Community Based Organization located in a rural community and trained the incoming Peace Corps Volunteers in art techniques useful for art therapy with HIV/AIDS survivors. Susan returned to continue working on her Laguna Creek series and to implement a sequential Standards-based art program for grades K-5 at Mintie White Elementary School in Watsonville, California.
