About

Conceived as a hyperobject, or an installation ideally visible from a nonhuman vantage point, Cosmic Mirror (The Sky over Saratoga) (2022, reconfigured 2024) scatters over the landscape to mirror a constellation known as Orion in the West, but has been known as different names in other spaces and temporalities. Cortez considers the possibility of engaging with this constellation as a time machine, not only because its light comes from the past and engages in conversation with its future, but also because we can tilt our head just so and be in a different location or temporality where this same constellation is also visible.

Location

This artwork is on display in the Succulent Garden.
