“His voice will take you to the heavens. His passion for music will have you rockin’ in your seat.”
Kalani Pe’a’s fourth release Kuini garnered his fourth Grammy win in Regional Roots, following his three wins from his first three releases. This year brought him 3 Nā Hōkū Awards as well, including Hawaiian Music Album. With his previous releases winning him five Nā Hōkū Awards, including the coveted Male Vocalist of the Year, his Nā Hōkū total is at eight. All his albums hit iTunes—Kuini at #1—and Billboard’s World Music Charts. The Maui News praises his “distinguished …flair for Hawaiian language composition, a talent for fusing traditional and contemporary elements into his music and his wide, expressive vocal range.”
He made his New York debut in February 2020 at a sold-out performance at Jazz at Lincoln Center for Lincoln Center’s American Songbook, the first and only Hawaiian artist to be featured on the series. He returned to New York in 2024 for Carnegie Hall’s Musical Explorers program, a full week of sold-out performances. Committed to his Hawaiian culture, he appears regularly at the prestigious Merrie Monarch hula competition, with his original songs featured by the winning Hula Halau ‘O Kamuela, among others.
August 2025 marks Kalani’s 10th anniversary since his first award-winning debut album, E Walea, which made Hawaiian music history as the first album ever to win both a Grammy and Nā Hōkū Award. This “Hawaiian contemporary soul” singer has been garnering awards and recognition ever since: Native Arts & Cultures Foundation, Artist in Business First Peoples Fund Leadership, Distinguished Alumni Award by his alma mater Colorado Mesa University (which also named its new music studio for him), WAA Native Launchpad Artist, and Maui Nui Hall of Fame.
