“Gary Michael Anderson lights up the stage with fearless charm in this stand up special. He tackles midlife aging, biracial parenting, and the mean streets of San Francisco – delivering razor sharp insights and hilariously real (and not) stories.”
Hosted by Johnny Steele
Gary, acclaimed for his charming and introspective humor, has captivated audiences far and wide. Crowned winner of the 2023 San Francisco International Comedy Competition, Gary’s comedic path began on college night at a local comedy club. Drawn by the lure of student discounts, the club became a tradition for him and his teammates. While the headliners dazzled, it was the openers who caught his attention. Their raw, unpolished performances made Gary think, ‘I can do this, and maybe even better.’ What he initially mistook for professional acts were, in fact, open micers. This discovery didn’t discourage Gary; it motivated him. The first time he took to the stage, he experienced an adrenaline rush reminiscent of his football days.
After honing his skills in San Francisco’s renowned comedy scene, Gary now resides in Los Angeles, fueled by a passionate goal: to have someone else write his bio in third person, rather than writing it himself.
Johnny Steele has performed stand-up comedy across North America, overseas and on countless networks, channels and platforms. He’s a past winner of the San Francisco Comedy Competition and has appeared at the Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal as well as multiple times at SF Sketchfest.
Johnny’s stile can best be described as loosely scripted stream of consciousness. He’s occasionally irreverent but always honest.
Johnny’s hosted radio and TV talk shows in The City, written humor for other comedians (including Robin Williams) and CEOs. He’s been the subject of a documentary, “Three Still Standing,” acted in commercials and local theater. He resides in Berkeley (which he regularly lampoons).
