Andrés Corchero is a dancer and choreographer born in Puertollano (Ciudad Real) and currently residing in Catalonia. A tireless explorer of body and dance languages, he has studied theater, circus, contemporary mime, and clowning. In 1985, he discovered Butoh dance and decided to move to Tokyo, where he studied and worked with Min Tanaka and Kazuo Ohno. He joined Tanaka’s Mai-Juku company, touring Japan, Europe, and the United States. He began his career as a choreographer in Barcelona with the show A un poeta futuro, the first of many collaborations with poet and translator Feliu Formosa. Among other accolades, he received the National Dance Award of Catalonia in 2003 and the ‘Al pas de la tarda 92’ award from Radio Nacional de España.
Throughout his career, Corchero has collaborated with artists from various disciplines, including visual artist Jordi Rocosa, singer Silvia Pérez Cruz, musician Ivo Sans, actors and directors Pep Ramis, Enric Ases, and Piero Steiner, pianist Agustí Fernández, and musician Joan Saura, among others. From 1993 to 2012, he co-directed the prestigious company Raravis with Rosa Muñoz.
His reunion with Oguri led to the continuous creation project My neighbor sky (2012-2024), as well as Return to Absence (2014-2016), inspired by Samuel Beckett’s trilogy, the duet 451 (2020), and Body as evidence (2022-2024), both in homage to Ray Bradbury.
In the field of education, he continues the pedagogical work and dissemination of Body Weather that he began over 30 years ago, teaching regular classes and intensive workshops worldwide. Since 1998, he has been a professor at the Escola Superior d’Art Dramàtic and the Conservatori Superior de Dansa at the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona.
