Crisosto Apache grew up on the Mescalero Apache reservation in New Mexico. Crisosto is Mescalero Apache, Chiricahua Apache, and Diné (Navajo) of the Salt Clan, born for the Towering House Clan. Apache earned an MFA at the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) and is an associate professor of English at Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design. Apache is also an editor-at-large for The Offing Magazine. Apache’s books include GENESIS (Lost Alphabet) and Ghostword (Gnashing Teeth Publishing), a finalist for the 2023 Colorado Authors League Award in poetry. Apache is the winner of the Publishing Triangle’s 2023 Betty Berzon Emerging Writers Award, a two-time Pushcart Prize nominee, and the 2026 Colorado Poet Laureate. Apache’s newest work entitled is(ness) was published in 2025 (Gnashing Teeth Publishing).
