Paulina Astorga Monteón is a Mexican composer born in Mazatlán, Sinaloa. She began her musical studies in 2010 at the Mazatlán Municipal Arts Center in piano. In 2015, she moved to Mexico City to study composition at the Facultad de Música de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, where she graduated with honors, having studied with teachers Gabriela Ortiz, Leonardo Coral, and María Granillo.
She is the winner of the Arturo Márquez Composition Contest for Chamber Orchestra in 2023 and the Arturo Márquez Extraordinary Chair of Musical Composition in 2022. Her music has been presented in the most important enclosures of Mexico, including the main hall of Palacio de Bellas Artes and Nezahualcóyotl Hall. It has also been performed by large orchestras such as Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional, Orquesta de Cámara de Bellas Artes, among others.
Paulina’s music has been included in visual media including the film Nada Siempre which was selected to be part of the Morelia International Film Festival. Her music has also been selected to be presented in festivals located in the USA, Panama, Finland and others.
